Yule Tidings

A Season of feasting, gathering of family and friends, and maybe even wishes of snow (depending on where you live). Although some dread the cold and gray that Winter brings, I have come to really enjoy this time of year. Yule honors one of the oldest celebrations in the world - the Winter Solstice. On this shortest day of the year, the sun seemed to "stand still" in the sky. Feasts and fires burned through the dark night for a returning of the sun. In some ancient traditions the “Yule Log” that was burnt was actually the entire tree! Naturally, it only seemed fitting to honor this time of year with scents that originated from trees.

FOREST PINE there's something about evergreens that just make me think of times long, long ago - when much of the land was covered in thick forests teaming with life

FRANKINCENSE & MYRRH both have been used in ceremonies since ancient times and exude an exotic, mystical energy. Gum resins are extracted from trees with Frankincense coming from the sap of Boswellia trees and Myrrh from the lifeblood of Commiphora trees

CRANBERRY a beautiful contrast of sweetness to the pine these little evergreen berries remind me of this time of year and the sweetness of joy

CINNAMON a warming, delicious smell that reminds me of all things baked goods! This common spice is obtained from the inner bark of the Cinnamon trees
